Writing Quality Content Gets Traffic
68Monetizing Hubs in the Begnning
First, I love HubPages.
I can, and do write for hours at a time for the sheer joy of writing. However I found myself struggling with aspects other than the writing when I first began writing on the HubPages site. Things like HubPages Earning Program, AdSense, Google, eBay and other means to monetize my account were very intimidating. Maybe I just wasn't getting it? How the heck does a Hubber gain all of the information and angles needed to get paid? I personally was more apt to spend my time finger dancing across my keyboard then I was searching for information regarding the 'how to' of making a buck writing online.
Am I lazy or just an artist?
I asked myself , "Am I lazy or just an artist?" Or are these synonyms for each other? Looking at things like I did, my brain wanted to go to one page that had a checklist of options to check or not to check. I was willing to fill in information windows and the likes, but it really was way to intimidating when I had to go from page to page, linking to this and to that, enter the URL information and all of the things I had no understanding for. It just seemed that if someone had very limited computer skills and needed to write, but also wanted to make a few shekels while doing so, that a check list would be available? I simply wanted to fill in 'yes' or 'no' and when done, KAZAM!! I would have monetize my account and all would have been good in online writing land.
What I found was this; it takes a little more then good writing to make a few dollars writing online articles.

How to Earn Money While Writing Online Articles
Here is the thing, I work hard.
I keep my Hub Karma at a helpful score and my Hub score high enough to feel good about my day. So....correct me if I am wrong, but it is Hub Karma, right? So where is my good karma for my hub Karma? Know this: No one is going to find any Hub money laying around on a bad HubPages article no matter how high your HubKarma may be. And forget entering the contest's here on HubPages, they won't render a single accolade, or an honorary mention if the article doesn't have the right stuff. Making money with online writing is a task designed to work only when you have the right formula and know-how. Using the right keywords, SEO, and above all good quality content, is just the tip of the online article writing iceberg.
The HubPages Success Formula Emerges!
The HubPages Golden Standard: Elements of a Stellar Hub
In January of 2012, the HubPages team released information regarding a true formula for making the most successful online articles. It is clear and direct on just how to create something that will most likely serve to increase your income. It is all but a checklist for online article success! I recommend reading it and absorbing the techniques and criteria for writing a stellar hub immediately!

No More Devils Advocate for Online Writers
It's time to get down to some real facts.
The truth is that true writers are artistic. They have a kind of "in our heads" approach to the world. They exude intellect (in most cases) and share needed data with the masses. Online writers research so others don't have to, they tell stories so readers can imagine, and they reach inside themselves to recall deep-felt experiences so others can also feel. It is in their make-up and is usually what the writer does best. Why not make a little money at it, or even loads? These online writers are deserving of reward for their important work.

See results without votingI have read some pretty spectacular hubs
Some Hubs have made me laugh, tear-up, and a few have even made me angry. All this emotion brought out by reading good quality content within many of the articles online. I have been truly amazed by the HubPages writers community. This is truly the top of the heap when it comes to talented writers compared to some other factory style writing sites. Many of the great writers here on HubPages deserve to get paid even more for their words, because theirs are the articles that will pay-off in the long run--or more accurately, the long tail, for the HubPages site. They have more to offer the company as a whole and thus, should make more money for their online writing.
For those who are new, or struggle to make a little jingle with writing online, it is imperative that you reach out to these proven authors by reading the outstanding hubs that pertain to the subject of making money with HubPages Ads, AdSense, Amazon, and the likes. These are the articles that will help you the most. But they have to be read, bookmarked, and understood in order for you to improve your own placement within the online writing community. By reading really good content articles you will see how important "good original content" truly is, and that for the lack of a better term, "content" is in fact, king!
Write first because you can, then write because 'baby needs new shoes'— if you will.

Knowing is not enough. You have to stick to what you learn in order to make money. My problem is that I get all off on some subject and even if I write the hub well, research, and all, I keep forgetting that you have to write stuff that people will want to read and click those ads! It's not all about entertaining myself. Or is it?
Well, K9, I can empathize with your frustration. You've read and commented on many of my hubs and I surely appreciate it. You might have noticed that I won $50 on HubPages from a Hubalicious daily drawing. I've been here for awhile, have over 50 hubs, and have made a grand total of, well, $50. LOL Yes, I made a little more than that which is sitting in my Google Adsense account until I hit their $100 minimum pay out again. (The last time I got paid by Google was before I was a hubber.) I use SEO to the best of my ability and I am in the top 5 Google results for some of my targeted keywords. However, I have started doing more with affiliate marketing in addition to Google AdSense. I am hoping to increase the income from my websites. I own several WordPress websites, and a couple talk about the very things you mention in your hub. I just wanted you to know it is a common frustration and it takes time to generate true income from freelance writing on the Internet.
Funny as this might sound but that last time a made a statement on here I stated that I only made .04 cents from AdSense in the whole 7 months that I have been on hub pages. However I starting writing more aggressively this months not for the money but becouse I enjoy it.
I have learned alto from other hubbers on monetizing my hubs such as SEO, and using the right and strong keywords that match up with the content.I have took what I have been learning her from hubbers and I am seeing dramatic changes For example my first hub I had written 7 moths ago only had 36 hit for the whole 7 moths. after I did some SEO work and backlinking I have more then doubled that in 7 days. and made over $3.00 from AdSense. so yea you can change your success with hub pages even if the hub is nearly a year old.SEO people Learn it, Apply it, and cash on it.
Hope this will uplift you all and put a little hope in your writings.
Well this has inspired me to write a hub on this topic, not that I am making any money here even thou I have made a total of 4 sense with AdSense from hub pages, but other places I am starting to make money and I have only been with them for nearly 2 months now. I also notice this community doesn't comment as much as some other places I write at and this and in my case almost never get a comment.
However I do hope that at some point and time there will be a slow increase in profits from the hubs I write however I stopped using it at a goal to accomplish and instead focus more on the enjoyment of writing. If the money comes great if not oh well I'll just keep writing to satisfy my own enjoyment that comes with it.
don't get me wrong I still monetize my hubs with Amazon, AdSense, and affiliate links but I never to expect anything from it but their in place just in case a passerby sees something of interest and helps me out along the way.
K9 you have great thoughts and ideas through your hubs. Nellieanna and Micky hit the nail on the head you - it is all about content and enjoying it. That is all I focus on. I joined up adsense and amazon and have sought to make keywords in there and have joined a few backlink sites and created a blog. I found I get pretty wrapped up in my hubs and have developed a few online friends like Nellieanna and Micky amongst others. We tend to read and rate each others work and learn from that. Then guess what I checked my account. My traffic is way up and I am getting hits from all over - sites I had never heard of linked back to me. Checked adsense and Amazon - wow I thought getting a few bucks there to.
This was with minimal effort outside my writing. This is important if I wanted this to take over and be my job then there is much social networking, marketing and all that but I don't do this to be a job. I think if you did it would be pretty low paying and easy to break the spirit. However all of a sudden there is a bit of income - so a balance on the circumstances is certainly possible. I guess I should write a hub on it. Whatever you choose you can achieve it that is the point. :)
K9, firstly welcome to Hubpages. You are so right in saying that we all love to write, especially in this lovely community called Hubpages, but some money would be nice. I write here as a hobby so if I do receive some money then its a bonus.
I really relate to your frustrations with how we have to monetize our sites, I felt exactly the same when I first started. Be patient, it will happen. In the meantime let's keep enjoying our coffees together.
Well I havn't yet caught the CQS (commercial quest syndrome) about writing or about any of the other somewhat creative things I do. I'm still marveling that there's actuall an online place to write to my heart's content (and to my brain's extent of content) without causing someone who can't string a sentence together to conclude I'm "showing off" - as is a rule in many random-membership groups online. But I can see your point, K9. It is supposed to offer the writeris a chance to make $$ in the process. I haven't really investigated that but my impression seems to be it is not by writing and/or being published but by allowing ads on one's site which may pay $$ based on the traffic generated by the writing. I suppose that's a kind of payoff, but if I have reservations about "selling my soul" in selling what I've done for money, it's even more dubious an honor to get paid for having visitors to my soul who end up perhaps buying Cheerios or ankle bracelets advertised on the right-hand side next to my writ. I dunno. Am I way off-base, do you think? I'm serious. Tell me how that grabs you.
Hey k9! i SEE you've been on here for 4weeks! Just one week shy of me I think! And I haven't made a dime either! Rebecca E, I believe keeps saying it takes 4-8 months to make $$ and then you have to keep at it. She also says you have to do the social networks like reddit.com (a good one :) and write ezines.....
Same feeling here, but be patient and have faith--I think were both gonna do really well hahah! seriously :)
